You need to get a letter of No Objection from the Ministry if you plan to translocate vegetation from one island to the other.
What situations require a vegetation clearance permit from the EPA?
You need to get a vegetation clearance permit if you plan to remove vegetation from one island in a quantity greater than 50 units, when removing vegetation for or from government buildings, and when translocating vegetation of any quantity off the island.
What is the total number of units of vegetation that can be translocated?
You can only translocate 30 to 50% of the units of vegetation you clear.
What can you do if replanting in the same area is not possible?
You will need to replant trees in the closest possible location or in an alternate location under the jurisdiction of a local council.
What will happen if the project is not completed within the valid period of the permit?
If you are unable to complete the project within the valid period of the permit, you will be fined an amount of MVR5,000. Additionally, you will need to apply for another permit. This new application should be submitted as a renewal request.
